Merrily We Roll Along
stars Daniel Radcliffe,
Lindsay Mendez and
Jonathan Groff in a
revival of Stephen
Sondheim’s 1981 musical.
When the show first ran
in 1981, the ill-fated
production featured music
and lyrics by Sondheim
and was directed by Hal
Prince.
 It was panned by
critics and closed
after 16 performances.
Subsequently, Prince and
Sondheim ended their
collaborations.
 However, this 2023
revival had been
extensively rewritten and
opened to rave reviews.
Spanning three decades
and played in reverse
chronologic order, a
talented musical composer
abandons his friends
and career to become a
Hollywood producer.
 Directed by Maria
Friedman, the show runs
through March 24.
At the Hudson Theatre,
141 West 44th St. (855)
801-5876.

Prayer for the French
Republic spans five

 In 1944, a Jewish couple
in Paris desperately awaits
news of their missing
family. More than 70
years later, the couple’s
great-grandchildren find
themselves facing the same
question as their ancestors

— are we safe being Jews?
 The long history of
antisemitism in France is
explored.
 Performances will begin
Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2023,
with opening night set for
Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2024

James and is written by
