42 | DECEMBER 14 • 2023 TRAVELING FAR & WIDE So far, Lutz has traveled to Dallas, New York, Chicago, Atlanta, Las Vegas, England and more to purchase items for The Peacock Room and her other brands. She even ventured to China for the country’s famous Pearl Market, where 75% of the world’s pearls are bought and sold. “There’s really no place I wouldn’t want to explore to bring back the very best for Detroiters,” she says. Being able to see color in person, feel fabrics and inspect the quality of buttons and zippers makes a big difference in the quality of inventory available to her customers, explains Lutz, who is a member of Isaac Agree Downtown Synagogue. Not to mention, she needs to know if rhinestones are truly as sparkly as depicted. There’s also the in-person interaction customers get with employees, which Lutz says is a key element missing in the rapid growth of online shopping. In fact, she says her employees are more like friends and confidants to people who shop The Peacock Room brand. “Small businesses serve a community need,” she describes, “not just a commercial need.” Now, Lutz continues to look forward to catering to both new and existing customers with the upcoming expansion of The Peacock Room brand, and increasing its footprint in Detroit. “The expansion has really pushed me to find the absolute most extraordinary things,” she says, “so that when people come in, they still get that sense of delight and surprise.” BUSINESS Each piece of jewelry is hand-picked by Rachel Lutz. continued from page 41 YOUR AD HERE E M A I L O R C A L L sales@thejewishnews.com | 248.354.6060 ADVERTISE WITH US!
