medals — 23 in bowling and four in
softball — competing in the National
Senior Games and Michigan Senior
Olympics since 1990.
Friedman most recently won gold
medals in singles and doubles bowling
this summer in the men’s 85-and-over
age group at the Michigan Senior
Olympics.
Just prior to that, he won gold
medals in doubles and team (men’s
80-and-over) bowling at the national
competition in Pittsburgh.
Friedman owns state Senior Olympics
records in doubles bowling in three age
groups with two partners: Phil Horowitz
(60-and-over) and Joe Saikowski
(80-and-over and 85-and-over).
There are two other bowling
distinctions that belong to Friedman,
who competed on the Professional
Bowlers Association Senior Tour for six
years.

When he bowled a 300 in 1957, it was
believed to be the first perfect game
rolled by a Jewish bowler in Michigan.
He bowled a spectacular 300-257-
297 — 854 series in 1997. That was the
highest series by a Jewish bowler in the
state before Aaron Radner rolled an 858
a few years ago.
Friedman was born into bowling. He
said he was born a block away from
Dexter Recreation and was a pin-setter
there when he was 16.

SOCCER SUCCESS FOR FRANKEL
Cobi Clark has been the boys soccer
coach at Frankel Jewish Academy
for five years. His team won a state
tournament game for the first time this
fall, defeating Novi Christian Academy
2-1 in a Division 4 district opener.
Frankel athletic director Robert
Walker said it was the first post-season
win for the boys soccer Jaguars in at

least seven years.
Ryan Schmaltz scored both Frankel
goals vs. Novi Christian, and goalie Ari
Salama was solid between the pipes.
“Ari was the MVP of the game,” Clark
said. “He had more than eight key saves
that secured the win for us.”
Frankel lost its next district game and
finished the season with a 4-9-1 record.
Here’s the rest of the Frankel roster:
Aiden Squarcia, Aiden Felhandler,
Ari Gottlieb, Ari Michaels, Ari Ostroff,
Aryeh Gamer, Asher Brode, Elan
Arkashevsky, Elan Rosenberg, Evan
Bronstein, Ezra Lupovitch, Hillel
Chudnow, Joe Squarcia, Kobi Schmeltz,

During the War in Israel

Development Corporation for Israel/Israel Bonds and its affiliates
have secured more than $1 billion in bond investments from inves-
tors since Oct. 7, fortifying Israel’s economy during wartime.
With this ongoing groundswell of investment in the Jewish state,
Israel Bonds has also doubled its annual global bond sales for 2023
from more than $1 billion to surpass $2 billion, and above the mile-
stone of $50 billion in global investments since the organization’s
founding in 1951.
Dani Naveh, president and CEO of Israel Bonds, said, “This is
Israel bonds’ highest surge of investment ever, which demonstrates
the strong support for Israel of the Jewish communities and Israel’s
supporters in the United States and around the world.”

Repair Detroit Joined Partners at
Fall Fest at Camp Tamarack

Repair Detroit joined partners at Fall Fest at Camp Tamarack in
October, in partnership with the Farber Farm. Individuals who
showed up to serve made tea bags for Yad Ezra, a local Jewish
food pantry. Most of the ingredients were grown and dried on the
Farber Farm by campers during the summer.
