GIFT GUIDE

M

ost of us love
to open a gift-
wrapped package
every now and then. But
sometimes it’s a relief to take
a break from the toys that
won’t be touched or adding a
sweater to the pile.
This year, try an
alternative route — at least
for one night of Chanukah.
Whether it’s a certificate for
a special night for someone

special or an outing your
family can participate in
together, giving the gift of
an experience can enrich
the lives of both the giver
and givee, create an indelible
memory and hopefully be
a teaching moment about
traditional Jewish values
of loving-kindness and
importance of family without
the stress on worth in
dollars.

Give your loved ones something
you can share together — and
something they’ll remember long
after Chanukah.

A CHANUKAH GETAWAY
Whether it’s a night at a hotel with a pool for
the kids or hitting the slopes of Gstaad, a family
getaway equals a Chanukah to remember. Or
try an afternoon at an indoor waterpark, close to
home: With 6,500 square feet of watery thrills,
Livonia’s Parks and Rec Leisure Pool is perfect
for an after-school or weekend treat. Plunge
down a 250-foot water slide, meander around
the lazy river in an inner tube and delight the
little kinders in the zero-depth entrance water
playground with sprays and geysers. Call before
heading out since times are subject to change.

PLAY BALL!
Something to save ’til spring: Sure, a day at
Comerica Park is always a great day. But did
you know that on most Sundays, the Detroit
Tigers offer Kids Run the Bases (ages 4-14)?
To participate, guests can line up under the
scoreboard in left field at the conclusion of the
game. Be sure to check the Tigers schedule
to make sure the program is happening the
day you plan to visit. While you’re there, check
out the Hi-Chew Carousel in the Comerica
Bank Big Cat Court and the Fly Ball Ferris
Wheel in the Brushfire Grill. Bonus: Many local
synagogues host outings to celebrate Jewish
Heritage Day with the Tigers (tickets go on sale
starting Dec. 1) — check with yours for 2024.
