ART LECTURE
5:30 PM, NOV. 30 (THURS.)
At the DIA lecture Hall. Susan
Sidlauskas, distinguished
professor of the history
and theory of modern art at
Rutgers, the State University
of New Jersey, will discuss
Paul Cézanne’s portraits
of his wife, Hortense.
These paintings have not
often received attention.
Compared to the sensual
appeal and beauty of
the apples in his still lifes
and his landscapes, the
portraits were viewed
as “unattractive” or
“uninteresting.” This lecture
will demonstrate to the
audience that Hortense was
Cézanne’s most significant
“other.” Free with registration:
tickets.dia.org.
