Jewish athletes in the news:
• The commotion
surrounding Josh Nodler’s all-
important final year of college
hockey has calmed down.
Bowling Green coach Ty Eigner
was reinstated Oct. 19 after
being placed on
administrative
leave following
allegations of
hazing at an off-
campus event
involving a few
of his players.
Nodler, a center, is
in his first season
at Bowling Green
after previous
stops at Michigan
State and UMass.
The Oak Park
resident was drafted by the
NHL’s Calgary Flames in 2019.
• It happened in an exhibition
game, but freshman Noah
Adamczyk of Bloomfield Hills
scored his first points for the
Central Michigan University
basketball team. The 2023
Jewish News High School
Athlete of the Year had five
points, shooting 2-of-4 from
the field and 1-of-2 on three-
pointers, in the Chippewas’
97-32 win over Alma on Oct.
29. Adamczyk, a Bloomfield
Hills High School grad, also
had a rebound in five minutes
of action.
• The Elon (N.C.) University
men’s soccer team’s
remarkable late-season run
came to an end Nov. 5 when
the No. 6 seed Phoenix lost
to No. 2 seed Monmouth on
a penalty-kick shootout after
the two teams battled to a
scoreless tie in the semifinals
of the Colonial Athletic
Association tournament.

Huntington Woods resident
Ben Rosenblatt, a 2020 Jewish
News High School Athlete of
the Year, was Elon’s senior
captain this season. The
Berkley High grad had a goal
and an assist playing midfield
and defense.
Elon (6-9-3) won
its last four CAA
regular-season
games to qualify
for the conference
tournament and
knocked off No.
3 seed Stony
Brook 1-0 in
the tournament
quarterfinals
before losing to
Monmouth.
• Ryan Turell,
who is trying to become the
first Orthodox Jewish player in
the NBA, is back with the Motor
City Cruise, the Detroit Pistons’
G League affiliate, after being
cut by the Pistons. This will be
Turell’s second season with the
Cruise. He averaged 4.0 points
and 1.7 rebounds per game last
season.
• Max Sasson of Birmingham
is off to a good start with
the Abbotsford Canucks, the
Vancouver Canucks’ American
Hockey League affiliate.
Through 11 games, he had three
goals and two assists. The AHL
is the top minor league for NHL
teams.
• Detroit Red Wings
defensemen Jake Walman
is wearing a neck guard in
practice and games following
the death of former NHL player
Adam Johnson, who was cut by
a skate blade during a game in
England’s professional league.

York. Rabbi Joshua Bennett of
Temple Israel officiated.
Andrew is the loving son
of Laurie Fischgrund and Dr.
Kenneth Goldman, and Lisa
Daniels-Goldman. Marlee is the
loving daughter of Denise and
Dr. William Topkis.
Following a fabulous honey-
moon in Buenos Aires, Iquazu, Mendoza and Patagonia,
Andrew and Marlee reside in New York.

Samantha and Jonathan Sulzer of West
Bloomfield are proud to announce the birth
of their daughter, Noa Rose, sister of Leo, 5,
and Rayna, 3. She is the granddaughter of
Rick and Renee Unger, and Brian and Sherri
Sulzer. Noa is named in loving memory of her paternal
great-uncle John Werhane and maternal great-aunt
Claire Serling.

called to the Torah as a bat
mitzvah at Temple Israel
in West Bloomfield on
Saturday, Nov. 25, 2023.
She is the loving grand-
child of Barbara and the
late Robert Sloan, and the
late Nancy and the late
David Mayerson.

Eliana is a student
at Hillel Day School of
Metropolitan Detroit in
Farmington Hills. Her
most meaningful mitzvah
project is maintaining a
portion of the cemetery
where infants, including
her brothers, have been
laid to rest. She cleans and
beautifies the area known
as Babyland to create a
more comforting place for
loved ones to visit.
