A generous grant from The
Sephardic Foundation on
Aging will allow Jewish
Family Service to expand its
Mind University program
in the Russian-speaking
community by working
with partners in other areas,
as well as senior housing
communities to bring
programming directly to
their residents.
Mind University is
an innovative, cognitive
wellness program at JFS that
provides effective, evidence-
informed interventions
to enhance brain health,
independence, and overall
quality of life. Mind
University provides tools that
help older adults maintain
their cognitive functioning,
restore their hope for aging
with dignity, and enhance
their capacity to age in place.
The program offers a
variety of ways to engage,
such as cognitive screen-
ings, family consultations,
preventive education work-
shops, and cognitive training
classes. These interventions
are based on a Brain Health
Lifestyle model developed by
Dr. Paul Nussbaum, and evi-
dence-informed, structured
cognitive training classes
called Mind Aerobics™,
developed by the New
England Cognitive Center
(NECC).
In addition to its outreach
efforts in the Russian com-
munity, JFS also hopes to
partner with Jewish Family
Service of Washtenaw
County and Jewish
Community Services of Flint
so their Russian-speaking
community members may
also benefit from Mind
Aerobics classes.
