n Nov. 12, Jewish
environmental orga-
nization Adamah
Detroit will host the Adamah
Detroit Community Summit
from 2-5 p.m. at the DNR
Outdoor Adventure Center
in Detroit.
The free summit, which
focuses on climate action,
climate finance, environ-
mental education through a
Jewish lens, and how Jewish
history and tradition con-
nects to the planet, will share
actionable steps the commu-
nity can take to battle the
climate crisis.

The afternoon of learning
is designed for members,
lay-leaders, staff and cler-
gy of southeast Michigan
Jewish organizations and
will include a combination
of informative sessions and
hands-on workshops.
Together with its partner
organizations, including
Congregation Shaarey Zedek
and Temple Emanu-El,
among others, Adamah
Detroit hopes the summit
will help cultivate new and
existing Jewish leadership in
ongoing efforts to support
the environment.

“We hope this
will be a spark,”
says Adamah
Detroit executive
director Amit
Weitzer of the
2023 event, “and
that everybody
will make connections to
sustain and nourish the work
throughout this year and into
the future.”
Via ongoing conversations
with its partners, Adamah
Detroit was able to identify
the greatest needs in the
community as they relate to
the climate crisis, one of the

most pressing of which is
how the climate crisis affects
teen mental health.
It’s one of many critical
topics that will be dis-
cussed at the summit, which
Adamah Detroit hopes will
see more than 100 individu-
als in attendance.
“It’s been really positive so
far,” Weitzer says of the com-
munity response. “I think
people are really feeling
good about the collaborative
planning and development
approach.”
Adamah Detroit
Community Summit will
offer complimentary child-
care for program participants
and facilitators. While the
event is free to attend, regis-
tration is required. Early reg-
istration is recommended for
those interested in childcare,
which has a limited number
of spots.
