“We are going to fight
back and the IDF will win.
We’ll rebuild,” he says.
“We’re determined. We have
no choice. This is our only
homeland, and it will remain
our homeland.”
FIDF provides financial
and educational support,
helps wounded soldiers and
bereaved families, assists
Lone Soldiers who have no
immediate family in Israel,
and creates environments
where soldiers can relax,
connect with others, observe
holidays and more.
“Tens of thousands of
soldiers and reservists are
on the front lines, facing
an unprecedented and
harrowing conflict,” reads
a message on the FIDF
website. “FIDF is the sole
organization designated
by the IDF in the United
States to collect donations
for its soldiers. As their
true and only partners,
FIDF is responding to
their most urgent needs for
humanitarian support, which
currently include armored
ambulances, field hospitals,
plasma and other lifesaving
supplies.”
Oppenheim is dedicating
every waking moment to
assisting those in Israel and
checking in on his sister
and so many loved ones and
friends trying to heal and
overcome the trauma. He
says the constant messages
of support he’s receiving are
keeping him going.
“Every holiday at the
kibbutzim people sit together
in the main dining room.
Can you imagine sitting
around the table and you
know on every side of the
table someone is missing
who won’t be there anymore?
I hope my people will be able
to find a way to live their
life,” he said.
“Thank you to the Jewish
community — the great
people of Detroit — for being
such a supportive community
to Israel every day and now
during the war.”
