to be among other Jewish people and those
who support Israel to reignite our shared
love for each other and the country that
means the world to us.”
Mendel added, “Having visited Israel for
the first time in March 2023 during the
Motor City Mission, it seems surreal to see
what is now going on in Israel. The Metro
Detroit community is so supportive, strong
and giving. I’m proud to be a part of the
Metro Detroit Jewish community. I also
appreciate Gov. Whitmer, Haley Stevens,
and Gary Peters’ comments on their
unwavering support of Israel.”
Janice Allweiss Young, in visible deep
pain, said, “I have been shaking all day.” She
said she recently found and reconnected
with family members in Israel. Supporting
Israel’s right to exist free of terrorism,
Allweiss Young said, “is not a political
issue.”
Adam Baker shared that he was raised by
proud Zionist parents. He has traveled to
Israel more than 30 times. His great uncle,
of blessed memory, Shmuel Franzblau, was
one of the halutz, founding pioneers, of the
Jewish State. Baker has five cousins in Israel
that he had not been able to connect with
since the start of this war.
Adar Rubin urges all to “contact every
single elected official in the Michigan State
House to support Bill Schuette and Samantha
Steckloff’s bipartisan resolution to condemn
Hamas that is being introduced.”
