experience in the aesthetic
industry to run their new
division called Biopelle.
Guess who got the gig?
After first working as
Biopelle’s national sales
director and then its
business unit manager,
Milstein served as Biopelle
president for more than
five years, from April 2007,
when it was spun off as a
separate subsidiary of the
Ferndale Pharma Group,
through September 2012.
It was a busy and
pro-ductive period in
which he oversaw the
development and licensing
of several brands, including
Auriderm, Tensage and
Heliocare.
During this time,
Biopelle also filed a patent
for Retriderm, a retinol
serum Milstein invented.
The patent was issued
in August 2016, when
Milstein added yet another
title to his curriculum
vitae: in addition to being
Biopelle president, Milstein

was also named Chief
Executive Officer.
All told, he was with
Ferndale for 14 years. He
spent his last two working
years, from October 2017
to October 2019, as senior
vice president for product
innovation for the Ferndale
Pharma Group, when he
developed the skincare
line, “emepelle.”
Now a semi-retired
business consultant,
Milstein still manages to
stay busy. And he’s still
humble to a fault.
“I don’t like touting or
promoting myself,” he tells
a writer on the telephone.
“Why would anyone care
about what I’ve done?”
Whether he owns up to
it or not, Elliott Milstein
has done a lot. After
all, it was another great
Detroit entrepreneur, the
industrialist Henry Ford,
who once said, “You can’t
build a reputation on what
you are going to do.”
