Zedek members and have
children who attended Hillel
Day School, realized many
families were struggling
during the national health
crisis.
With a passion for baking
and cooking, they decided
to do what they loved best
and baked bread to donate
to local food pantries, where
families could pick them up.
In 2021, Kneaded with
Love donated 802 breads to
Open Hands and the Second
New Hope Missionary
Baptist Church food pan-
tries. As of today, with more
than 70 bakers volunteering,
the organization has donat-
ed more than 1,600 breads
community-wide.
Still, there is much work to
be done to fight food insecu-
rity, and Kneaded with Love
is constantly seeking out vol-
unteers to join their grass-
roots community of bakers.
“We are very honored
to be chosen by such a
prestigious organization,”
Salzberg-Siegel says. “We
were baking in our homes
during the pandemic and
watching all the food [pan-
try] lines get longer and
longer. We thought, ‘Hey, we
can do this. Let’s add to the
pantries.’”
Wallace says of families
who utilize local food pan-
tries: “They are so excited
when we arrive with our
breads. People love our
breads, and everyone that
bakes is just lovely. Everyone
[who volunteers with
Kneaded with Love] has a
big heart.”
Kalt says the award is
“absolutely unexpected” and
“an honor to get.”
“We really have to thank
all the people that have vol-
unteered to work with us,”

she says. “They are just as
deserving of it as the three of
us are.”

RACHEL STEWART OF
GARDNER WHITE
Stewart, a fourth-generation
Gardner White leader, was
the first woman to serve as
the chair of New Detroit
Inc., a nonprofit leader-
ship coalition that works to
achieve racial understanding
and equity in Metro Detroit.
She is also on the board
of Building Leaders for
Michigan alongside other
influential Michigan CEOs.
In addition, Stewart
was honored by the Anti-
Defamation League in June
2023 for contributions to
her community and support
of ADL’s mission to fight
antisemitism.
The Hillel Day School
graduate feels honored and
humbled to receive the pres-
tigious Woman of Vision
award from NCJW. “It’s very
important to be engaged in
our community,” she says, “as
a person and as a company
at all levels.”
Gardner White has
enjoyed a long partnership
with the American Red
Cross that Stewart says the
company is “very proud of,”
and on a personal level, she
sits on The Parade Company
board and is involved with
Wayne State University’s
Math Corps.
“That’s how I was raised at
home,” Stewart says of what
inspires her to give back, in
addition to her Hillel edu-
cation. “You’re taught to be
part of your community.”
