which will be provided by
a kosher caterer.
Visiting presenters
include Rabbi Aliza
Libman Baronofsky of
Yeshivat Maharat in New
York, the first Orthodox
seminary to ordain
women, whose visit is
made possible by the
Micah Philanthropies;
Gabrielle Kaplan-Mayer of
Philadelphia, Convenant
Award Scholar sponsored
by The Covenant
Foundation; Tamar Kay, an
Israeli film and television
producer; and Adam
Mansbach of Los Angeles,
author of several best-
selling books, including
the recently published The
Golem of Brooklyn, whose
participation is sponsored
by Reboot.
Local presenters
include the perennially
popular Professor Howard
Lupovich, Rabbi Mitch
Parker, Rabbi David Polsky
and artist Lynne Avadenka.
Sessions will include one
with a panel of presenters
on Jewish Congregations
Organized for Resettlement
and another with pre-
senters on Jewish People of
Color.
Presentations are
grouped into several tracks,
including Arts & Culture,
Body & Soul, Current
Events, History, Identity,
Israel, Jewish Life &
Practice, Our Community,
Social Justice, and Text
& Thought. Attendees do
not have to stick with a
particular track, and many
sessions fit into more than
one. Though registrants

can indicate which sessions
most interest them, this
does not obligate them
to attend any particular
presentation Attendance
at any session is on a
first-come, first-served
basis, and the current
schedule may change, said
Irv Goldfein, president
of the Limmud board of
directors.
Working with Birnholz
and Goldfein on this
year’s event are Marcia
Bercow of Frasier, Leslie
Black of Farmington
Hills; Rachel Francisco
of Ann Arbor, Nancy
Goldberg of Farmington
Hills, Rabbi David Polsky
of Southfield; Jeremy
Rosenberg of Detroit,
Rabbi Steven Rubenstein
of West Bloomfield; Arthur
Slabosky of East Lansing;
and Mira Sussman of Ann
Arbor.
Many volunteers have
put in hundreds of hours
to make Limmud Michigan
happen, but more are
needed, said Birnholtz, as
are additional sponsors.
“It’s the only way Limmud
can function,” she said.
Anyone wishing to
volunteer or donate can
do so through the website,
https://limmudmichigan.
org.
Registration is also
handled via the website.
The registration fee
includes snacks and a
kosher box lunch. Early
registration, set at $25,
ends Oct. 14. After that,
the fee will be $36. Full-
time students pay $18.
