about Hadassah. In
her 50-plus years of
dedicated service to this
organization, she’s modeled
for us all what one woman
with determination and vision
can do. And she’s done it all
with warmth, compassion and
love. I’m in awe of this
woman!”
Fine, then a young mother,
hadn’t even heard about
Hadassah when a friend
asked her to participate in
a fundraising event for the
Eleanor Roosevelt Chapter
of Greater Detroit Hadassah.
That was the beginning of a
love affair with Hadassah that
continues today.

“I had a child and needed
to get out,” Fine said. “I met
wonderful, intelligent girls,
and then I learned about the

organization. I found a home
really early there.”

She served as president of
Hadassah Greater Detroit,
president of Eleanor Roosevelt
Chapter, Membership VP,
Programming VP, Community
Outreach VP, Advisory
Liaison to Aviv, Leorah and
several other chapters, in
addition to chairing many
events.
Bev also was instrumental
in Opening Meetings,
Rummage Sales and in
creating the Check It Out
program that informed more
than 5,000 teens how to do
breast self-examinations.
“Some aren’t as involved
after their presidency — I
stayed involved,” Fine said.
“During my presidency, I
reorganized Rummage; I’m

still working on Rummage.
I’m a people person. There
are 100 volunteers working
together. It’s a wonderful thing
— we made money, brought
people together and got them
active with Hadassah.
“Hadassah has given me
so much over 50 years. There
are so many women who
inspired me, taught me how
to be a leader, to love Israel, to
know what Hadassah does in
Israel and around the world.
I am proud to be a Hadassah
member.
“Giving me this award
is honoring me in the way
that I inspire others, and I
have deep appreciation and
gratitude for that. If I’ve
inspired others to love what I
love, I am humbled by it. The
evening should be wonderful,

and all should come.”
Fine and her husband,
Stuart, have two daughters,
Jennifer and Heather; two
sons-in-law, Ian and Doug,
and five grandchildren: Lucca,
Noah, Jaxon, Asher and
Rylan.

In addition to this being
Hadassah Greater Detroit’s
first evening annual meeting,
another first will be a silent
auction to help raise funds
to support Hadassah’s
internationally renowned
hospitals in Israel that
continue to make incredible
strides in world-class health
care and research.
Event chairs are Gail Katz
and Mimi Markofsky. To
attend the program, RSVP by
Oct. 1 to hadassahmidwest.
