T

he Dorothy and Peter
Brown Jewish Community
Adult Day Program will
be holding its award-winning,
dementia-friendly service to
celebrate the High Holidays at
the Fleischman Residence chapel
(6710 W
. Maple Road in West
Bloomfield) on Sunday, Sept. 24,
at 10:30 a.m.
The Kol Nidre/Yom Kippur
service will be followed imme-
diately by a Kiddush, which is a
new addition to the program, and
participants will also be gifted a
1-pound challah and a small jar
of honey.
The service is open to the
entire community at no charge

and valet parking will be avail-
able.
The Brown Program is a joint
initiative between Gesher Human
Services and Jewish Senior Life,
which operates the Edward I. &
Freda Fleischman Residence.
“The inclusive service will be
less than an hour and includes
all of the familiar melodies that
are so beloved by our community
at this time of year,
” said Brown
Program Director Debi Banooni.
“The music and rituals in
our High Holiday service evoke
strong memories for individu-
als with memory loss who have
enjoyed them throughout their
lives. We welcome anyone living

with dementia and their families
to attend.
”
Cantor Pamela Schiffer, who is
Cantor Emerita of Congregation
Shaarey Zedek in East Lansing,
will be conducting the service for
the sixth year. “We are excited to
welcome Cantor Schiffer back to
our intimate service as she is both
motivating and inspirational for
all our attendees,
” Banooni added.
The set up at the Fleischman
Residence chapel has ample
room for wheelchairs and is fully

accessible for the residents of the
Brown Memory Care Pavilion.
As in previous years since the
pandemic, the service will also be
available via Zoom.
 The High Holiday service is
made possible through a generous
gift from the Deedee and Michael
Perlman Caregivers Fund housed
at the Jewish Federation of
Metropolitan Detroit. To register
for the program, both in-person
and virtually, visit brownadultday.
