OUR COMMUNITY
I
n recognition of the 22nd
anniversary of 9-11, Jewish
National Fund-USA part-
nered with several schools and
synagogues in the Detroit Metro
area to host 9-11 ceremonies,
during which students learned
about the terrorist attacks that
forever changed America and
the world. The events also
served as an opportunity to
honor local first responders and
security officers who bravely
serve our community.
On Sept. 11, nearly 100 stu-
dents gathered at Hillel Day
School for an official ceremo-
ny honoring both the school
security guard and local police
department.
Jewish National Fund-USA
Israel Program Admissions
Director Sunny Cohen and
Hillel Day School Dean of Judaic
Studies Rabbi David Fain per-
sonally gave Farmington Hills
Police Chief Jeff King a plaque
featuring Jewish National Fund-
USA and KKL-JNF’s 9-11 Living
Memorial in Jerusalem — the
only commemorative site of its
type outside of the U.S. that fea-
tures all the names of those who
were killed on 9-11.
Established in 2009, the
monument is a testament to the
enduring connection between
Israel and the U.S., and our
countries’ shared values.
Chief King told the crowd,
“We can’t do our job without
you — students, parents, schools
and organizations. It is so impor-
tant for us to remember 9-11 in
schools and organizations. We
can never forget.
”
Several days earlier, students
at Frankel Jewish Academy held
a similar program honoring
their school security officer for
his commitment to protecting
the school and students. He was
presented with a plaque as well.
Jewish National Fund-USA
also hosted its annual ceremony
on Sept. 11, paying tribute to the
victims of 9/11 at its memorial
in Jerusalem.
