New, Free
“Springboard to
Success” Program

A free four-week program for
Metro Detroit women who have
been out of the workforce and
need to learn basic job search
and computer skills, essential
for many employment oppor-
tunities, will have an informa-
tional meeting on Sept. 7 at
Gesher Human Services (29699
Southfield Road, Southfield).
The program, Springboard
to Success, combines the non-
profit’s successful Women to
Work program, which has
helped thousands of women
obtain work since the 1980s,
with Gesher’s Computer Basics
Class for job seekers. Women
who believe their chief obstacle
to successfully search for and
secure a job is a lack of comput-
er knowledge can take just the
computer training portion of
the program.
Springboard to Success will
begin on Sept. 12 and run on
Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9
a.m. to noon, ending on Oct. 5.

The program is completely
free and includes computer
basics: creating, editing, saving,
and moving files; keyboard and
mouse usage; navigating the
internet; translating tech terms;
the cloud; safety; In-depth
vocational assessment; employ-
ment-related group counseling
and emotional support; help
with networking, resume writ-
ing and interviewing; stress
management; and information
and referrals to support services.
For more information, reach
out to class coordinator Judy
Richmond, by calling (248) 233-
4232 or emailing jrichmond@

The U.S. Environmental
Protection Agency awarded
$80,748 to Adamah Detroit (for-
merly known as Hazon Detroit)
as part of the Environmental
Education Grants Program. The
funding will be used to support
an interfaith climate education
project.
Adamah Detroit and its
partner, Michigan Interfaith
Power & Light, will conduct an
educational series that includes
20 climate workshops. More
than 240 people will participate,
with members drawn from
synagogues, churches and other
religious groups. This educa-
tional series will discuss the
realities of climate change and
its disproportionate impact on

disadvantaged communities as
well as provide a framework for
individual and collective actions.
“Climate impacts are affect-
ing our daily lives like never
before, yet research shows that
a minority — just over 1 in
3 — of us is talking about cli-
mate, even occasionally,
” said
Adamah Detroit Director Amit
Weitzer. “Together as partners
engaging diverse communities
of faith, Adamah Detroit and
Michigan Interfaith Power &
Light are excited to use Climate
Conversations as a tool to help
congregations move through
barriers, like feelings of power-
lessness and doom, and put their
collective love for Earth and
their neighbors into action.
