Auto Show Charity Preview
Scheduled for Rosh Hashanah

The Detroit Auto Show
Charity Preview is an
annual highlight on the
calendar for some people in
the Jewish community. It’s
a chance to get “red-carpet”
ready, see beautiful new
vehicles and raise money for
many charitable causes.
This year, however, many
Jews won’t be supporting
the event scheduled for
Sept. 15 — the first night of
Rosh Hashanah.
The scheduling was
unintentional, according
to Michele Hendrick,
communications manager
for the Detroit Auto Dealers
Association, which puts on
the event. She shared this
statement with the Jewish

News:
“We are mindful of the
unintentional scheduling of
this year’s Charity Preview
on the first night of Rosh
Hashanah and recognize
the significance of this
observance for so many in
our community. Charity
Preview is traditionally held
the Friday evening before
the Detroit Auto Show, and
since 1976, has raised over
$123 million for children’s
charities in southeast
Michigan.
“We will take every
measure to prevent
scheduling conflicts in
future years to honor
the significance of this
cherished Jewish holiday.”
