AUGUST 17 • 2023 | 29 SPOTLIGHT “We look at each other and say, ‘Wow, how is this possible!?’” Winnie said. “As anyone who’s been married a long time knows, marriage is an up and down kind of existence … There are many happy times and many sad ones. But, somehow, we made the right decision all those years ago and have loved and supported each other ever since.” The really incredible and special part? This beautiful couple completely and genuinely still adore each other. Winnie recognizes that their long and happy relationship is unusual and is willing to offer tips for those who want to aim for the same. “There has to be a great deal of love and affection, respect for each other, a great sense of humor and the ability to focus on the positive,” she said. Aaron agrees. “You have to respect each other, have fun together and share love.” At this point in their lives, Aaron and Winnie are enjoying the nachas of their beautiful family, have plenty of wonderful memories to bask in (including lots of travel and 11 cruises, including one especially memorable one to the Caribbean that 13 of their family members enjoyed together) and are filled with appreciation for all their blessings. “We just enjoy our lives together,” Aaron said. “And we’re looking forward to even more.” This column will appear biweekly. JOIN Interns Go Back to Preschool Two university students taking part in JOIN (Jeannette and Oscar Cook Jewish Occupational Intern Program), a paid summer internship program run by Gesher Human Services, which provides the opportunity for Jewish college students to work and learn more about Jewish communal work, went back to preschool this summer — the preschool they both attended when they were toddlers! Samantha Sherman, 19, who attends Michigan State University and is an intern with Yad Ezra, and Sammy Green, 20, who attends the University of Maryland and is an intern at Tamarack Camps, both spent a day visiting the Sarah & Irving Pitt Early Childhood Center, located at the JCC in West Bloomfield. They met with director Lauren Bogorad, who has been at the school for 16 years and knew the young women when they were small children. They also met several other teachers, some of whom have been at the school for 20-plus years. “It was wonderful to see these students come back and have that full-circle moment. They have blossomed into two outstanding young women, now working in the Jewish community,” Bogorad said. “We can only hope that having an early childhood experience at the JCC helped lay the foundation for that.” For more information on the preschool, go to jccdet. org/pitt-ecc. Cantor Levy will also be leading Shabbat services on the Shabbat of Sept. 8 and 9 as well as Friday, Sept. 22. He will also be participating in the Conserv- ative community Selichot service on Sept. 9. He plays multiple instruments, which will be on display at B’nai Moshe’s Friday evening Kabbalat Shabbat services. In addition to being invested as a Cantor from the Latin-American Rabbinical Seminary in Buenos Aires, Cantor Levy also has an MBA and a degree in architecture. The synagogue’s cantor search team, chaired by Stacey Whelan, received resumés from over 40 candidates and overwhelmingly selected Cantor Levy as the best of the best.
