AUG. 11-13 (FRI.-SUN.) 
“Good Moves, Good 
Grooves” will take place 
along the riverfront. The 
free weekend event will 
include a major concert, 
a youth three-on-three 
basketball tournament, a 
sports showcase and a 
1-mile fun run. Presented 
by the William Davidson 
Foundation. Aug. 11: Motown 
Museum’s “Rivertown 
Revue” — a celebration of 
music and talent in Detroit 
followed by a concert on 
the riverfront featuring the 
Commodores. Aug. 12: “3V3 
in the D,” a youth three-on-
three basketball tournament 
in partnership with the 
Detroit Parks Coalition 
and the Pistons Neighbors 
Program. Aug. 13: A family-
friendly 1-mile fun run, 
which will include a Detroit 

Sports Showcase featuring 
a sampling of sports — 
such as street hockey, 
lacrosse, horseback riding, 
and more — from Project 
Play: Southeast Michigan 
partners. All events are free 
and open to the public.

MUSIC EVENT

Alison Brown will perform 
at The Ark, 316 S. Main, 
Ann Arbor. She plays the 
banjo with a sound that 
blends the rugged drive of 
bluegrass with the harmonic 
sensibilities of jazz. Cost: 
$25.

TOT SHABBAT 
10-11 AM, AUG. 12 (SAT.) 
Organized by The Well, 
at Eastern Market, 2801 
Russell, Detroit. A special 
Tot Shabbat outing. Meet 
at the Art Park just across 
the street from Shed 5 for 
Shabbat songs and snacks 
and then enjoy the rest of 
the afternoon at the market. 
Tot Shabbats are geared 
toward kiddos ages 0-5 (ish) 
and their grown-ups. Due 
to the generosity of donors, 
there is no cost to attend,

HUMAN BOOKS 
11 AM-3 PM, AUG. 12 (SAT.) 
Visitors to the West 
Bloomfield Public Library 
on Walnut Lake in West 
Bloomfield will be able to 
borrow a person. A group 
of Human Books will be 
available in the Main Library 
Meeting Room to have 
conversations with visitors 
about their life experiences. 
The event is hosted in 

cooperation with the Human 
Library organization, which 
aims to create more inclusive 
communities through 
conversations that challenge 
stigmas and stereotypes. 
The volunteers serving as 
Human Books have directly 
or indirectly been exposed to 
prejudice, bias, stereotyping, 
stigma or discrimination 
based on aspects of their 
identity or life experiences. 
Visitors can drop by anytime 
during the event and start at 
a table outside the meeting 
room, where they will receive 
guidance from the librarians 
on topics available for 
lending. Once visitors have 
selected which Human Book 
they’d like to talk to, they 
can sit and have an open 
conversation with them for 
about a half hour. Titles are 

available on a first-come, 
first-served basis. This event 
is free and open to the public 
with no registration required.

CAMP OUT

Temple Israel in West 
Bloomfield invites families 
with young children to a 
“sleep-under” camp out. 
Enjoy a fun-packed summer 
night of crafts and games, 
dinner with bug juice, 
Havdalah and singing around 
the campfire and s’mores. 
Older kiddos are invited to 
bring their sleeping bags and 
stay late for a movie night
