“FRED” 
SCHATZ, 87, of 
West Bloomfield, 
died April 6, 
2023. 
He was born in Detroit. 
Fred was a graduate of 
Mumford High School and 
the University of Michigan. 
He was a past international 
president of Zeta Beta Tau 

and an executive trustee 
of the Eta Chapter of Zeta 
Beta Tau at the University 
of Michigan. Fred will be 
remembered as the ultimate 
University of Michigan sports 
fan and of many Detroit 
sports teams.
Mr. Schatz is survived 
by his wife, Enid Schatz; 
children, Michael Schatz, 
Lisa and Richard Broder, 
and Rick and Monica Schatz; 
grandchildren, Avery, Aaron, 
Alden and Beckett Schatz, 
Rachel and Daniel Kessler, 
Erica Broder, Ryan Schatz 
and his fiancee, Kate, Marlee 
Schatz, and Mia Schatz; 
Enid’s children, Michael and 
Beth Kupsov, and Steven 
Kupsov; Enid’s grandchildren, 
Hannah, Jordan, Sydney and 

Jaron; sister-in-law, Suzanne 
Schatz; many loving nephews, 
nieces and friends.
Mr. Schatz was the brother 
of the late Harvey Schatz, 
and the late Susie and the 
late Leo Knight; the son of 
the late Maurice and the late 
Gertrude Schatz. 
Interment was at Clover 
Hill Park Cemetery.
