The Jewish Bar Association of
Michigan (JBAM) will recognize
the achievements of two revered
judges at its annual awards
banquet 6 p.m. Monday, May
22, at the Townsend Hotel in
Birmingham.
Receiving the Avern Cohn
Lifetime Achievement Award
will be Judge Marla Parker of the
47th District Court
in Farmington
Hills. Judge Parker
has been a longtime
leading advocate
for protecting those
affected by domes-
tic violence.
JBAM will also
present its Ruth
Bader Ginsburg
Champion of Justice
Award posthu-
mously to Judge
Jamie Wittenberg
of the 44th District
Court of Royal
Oak/Berkley. Judge
Wittenberg, who passed away last
November, was admired for his
integrity and kindheartedness.
Also being honored as the
JBAM Volunteer of the Year will
be JBAM co-founder and former
President Ellie Mosko. Receiving
its Charles J. Cohen Esq. $1,500
scholarship will be Loren
Shevitz, a student at Wayne State
University Law School.
The cost of the dinner is $36
for JBAM members and $48 for
non-members if reserved by
May 12, After that, the price will
be $48 for members and $60 for
others. Judges are welcome to
attend at no charge.
