SUZANNE SUGAR, 80, of
West Bloomfield, died March
26, 2023.
She was born in Portland,
Ore., and grew up in Detroit.
Sue graduated from Mumford
High School (1960) and the
University of Michigan (1964),
where she majored in Far
Eastern Studies.
In her youth and adoles-
cence, Sue was a lively and
loving person who enjoyed
musicals and played the piano.

She studied Spanish in Saltillo,
Mexico, and cherished family
vacations at Windcliff House
in South Haven. From her
early 20s on, Sue was afflict-
ed by mental illness, which
defined the course of her life;
yet, she remained a caring
daughter, sister, aunt and
cousin.
She took pleasure in small
things like going to rummage
sales and finding treasures and
knickknacks to send to her
family. She enjoyed sharing her
vivid memories of childhood
in Detroit. She always took an
avid interest in family history
and in the lives of her beloved
nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family is grateful to
her parents, Saul and Wilma
Sugar, for providing means to

sustain Sue during her life and
especially to Gail and Alan
Sugar for attentively managing
her care, maintaining regular
contact and including her in
family events.
Sue Sugar was the daughter
of H. Saul and Wilma S. Sugar.
She is survived by her broth-
ers, Alan (Gail), Joel (Anita),
and David (Skye); nieces and
nephews, Lauree, Ami, Nicole,
Danny, Alec and Breanna; and
many cousins.
Interment was at Clover Hill
Park Cemetery. Contributions
may be made to National
Alliance on Mental Illness,
