JOHN “JACK”
HARLEY
WINKELMAN,
93, of San Diego,
Calif., died
March 20, 2023,
following a long decline.
Jack was born in Detroit.
As a child, he was notorious
for his mischief making,
often dragging his twin
brother, Fred, along with
him.
After serving as an Army
corpsman in Korea, Jack
joined the family business,
a chain of women’s clothing
stores called Winkelman’s.
He moved to New York to
run the buying office for
Winkelman’s and, on a trip
back to Michigan, he met
Sharon Robinson at a party.
They married soon there-
after, and she joined him in
New York where Leslye was
born.
The family made the sub-
urban trek from Queens to
Yonkers to Stamford, Conn.,
where they stayed through
Leslye’s high school years.
