FEBRUARY 16 • 2023 | 33 curious minds seemed to be his calling. After six months in Tel Aviv, he returned home to spend time with family before making the final move. However, fate intervened. While working and saving up some much-needed money — his excursion in Tel Aviv was anything but affordable — he met the woman who is now his wife. His calling remained the same though, so he decided to continue his education in Jewish history with a master’s degree from Wayne State University and is now working on a Ph.D., with Israeli social history as his dissertation topic. He taught courses at the University of Windsor for two semesters before accepting a position teaching at his first alma mater — Hillel Day School. He now teaches curious, young, Jewish minds about the history of their ancestors, as well as social studies and Judaic studies. Last year, he and his wife, Sara, welcomed their beautiful baby girl, Luna, into the world. They live in Berkley, where they love going on walks and spending time with family and friends. Tom and Sara enjoy fowling and are a formidable duo in that arena. Tom also considers himself an amateur barbecue pit master. He likes central Texas-style the most and smoked brisket in particular. ADAM BLEZNAK Adam started his involvement in the Jewish community of Metropolitan Detroit immediately after graduating from the University of Michigan in 2010. Since that time, he has served as a board member of Hillel of Metro Detroit. In the years that followed, Adam was nominated to the JFMD Real Estate committee, attended the 2015 ELP couples’ mission to Israel, served as a chairperson of the 2019 and 2020 NEXTGen event Epic, currently serves as a board member and vice president of Real Estate for the JCC, board member of the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit and as a member of Federation’s NYL Cabinet representing the Detroit community. Adam is a passionate leader in the Jewish community, looking for new ways to build meaningful relationships and make an impact on the security of the future of Jewish life locally in Detroit and around the world. Adam learned the importance of involvement in Jewish causes and leadership from his grandparents, Richard and Phyllis Bleznak, and his parents, Mitchell and Michele Bleznak, who are all longtime members of the community and have held important leadership roles throughout many areas of Jewish life in Southeast Michigan. Adam is married to Meryl Bleznak and together they have three children, Frankie, 5, Stella, 2, and Oren, 4 months.
