JARC brought holiday joy to
the people they serve with
a festive kosher meal and
activities on the first night of
Chanukah.
On the evening of Dec. 18,
the nonprofit organization,
which serves local adults with
developmental disabilities,
hosted a Zoom event to cel-
ebrate the first night of the
holiday. The event was attend-
ed by 63 people JARC serves
from 15 JARC homes and
individuals from the indepen-
dent living services program.
A kosher dinner of latkes
with apple sauce, chicken
schnitzel, roasted vegetables
and a Chanukah-themed
dessert was enjoyed by the
people JARC serves before

they joined the Zoom portion
of the celebration. Participants
got involved by lighting their
own menorahs and singing
Chanukah songs, both led by
CEO Shaindle Braunstein, fol-
lowed by playing Bingo, which
is always a favorite activity.
Chanukah care packages
were provided to each home
containing a dreidel-themed
craft, cookie decorating kit,
chocolate gelt, Chanukah jelly-
beans and stickers. In addition
to the evening event, during
the eight days of Canukah the
people JARC serves completed
their dreidel crafts and deco-
rated cookies.
This holiday celebration was
generously sponsored by the
Miller Family.

STORY
Our

When you lend money to My people, to the poor
among you, do not act toward them as a creditor;
exact no interest from them.
Exodus 22:24

This sentence forms the basis for Hebrew Free
Loan’s mission. On Shabbat Mishpatim,
February 17-18, 2023, the words that under-
pin one of our community’s longest-serving agencies
will be read during services in synagogues around
the world. Hebrew Free Loan is proud to have
assisted Jews in our community for more than 125
years, based on this directive.
Our Board and professional staff carry out the
Mishpatim ideal every week when we provide
interest-free loans and caring, thoughtful guidance
to Jews across Michigan. We offer loans for a range
of personal, educational and small business needs,
helping to improve lives, support Jewish families,
and help our neighbors attain their goals.
What is even more important, the money that
goes to local families and businesses is generated
entirely from local contributions to our loan capital
fund. When you give to HFL, you breathe life into
the place you live. When you recommend HFL
to someone you know, you strengthen Jewish life
across the state. When you come to HFL as a
borrower, you trust us to support your needs. So
each time a student goes to college, a family home
gets a new roof, or a bright idea becomes a busi-
ness, the community is behind it.
