UDITH CAROL
(CALFIN)
SCHNEIDER passed
away peacefully on Jan. 14,
2023.
Born Nov. 5, 1938, Judy
attended Pasteur Elementary
School as a child,
a school her chil-
dren, Stephanie and
Craig, attended,
and where, later
in life, she became
a member of the
board of trustees
and often volun-
teered to read to
the students.
Judy attended Mumford
High School in Detroit and
went on to undergradu-
ate studies at Wayne State
University, graduating in
1960. After graduation,
she worked as both an
elementary school and
adult English as a Second
Language teacher. She
later returned to school
to receive her master’s in
social work from Wayne
State University in 1982,
after which she set up pri-
vate practice supporting
countless clients over a 30+
year career. She continued
to give back to the commu-
nity through mentorship
and volunteer engagements.
As a longtime member
of the Birmingham Temple
(now the Congregation
for Humanistic Judaism of
Metro Detroit), Judy found-
ed the Interfaith Marriage
workshop program and
acted in and directed count-
less theatrical productions
at the temple and taught
Sunday school.
Judy was a beautiful, lov-
ing and creative spirit who
gave so much to her family,
friends, community and to

all who knew her. Artist,
actor, therapist, listener,
supporter, pet lover and care-
giver, Judy was never at a loss
for the right thing to say or
the right action to take to be
of service to all those around
her. Her memo-
ry will continue
to enrich and
enlighten us all.
She was the
beloved wife
for 57 years of
Morton Schneider;
cherished moth-
er of Stephanie
Schneider-
Zenna and Craig Schneider
(Jacqueline Musich); proud
nana of Cole Schneider,
Samuel Zenna, Elias Beser,
Harrison Zenna and Alana
Schneider; loving sister-in-
law of Beverly Schneider
and Harold (Butchie) Dunn;
other loving relatives, and a
world of friends.
Mrs. Schneider was the
devoted daughter of the late
Samuel and the late Fanny
Calfin; dear sister of the late
Barbara “Bobbi” Dunn.
A celebration of life will
take place on Friday, Jan.
27, at 11a.m. EST at the

Judaism of Metro Detroit,
