SHERRY KAYE, 
85, of East 
Lansing, died Jan. 
13, 2023. 
She had a long 
and varied career, 
moving to New York and 
performing as the featured 
vocalist with several major 
orchestras. She transitioned 
into musical theater perform-
ing in Babes in Arms, Make a 
Million, and starring roles in 
Kiss Me Kate, Flower Drum 

Song, Pal Joey, Fiorello, Bells 
are Ringing, and Guys and 
Dolls. 
Sherry returned to Detroit 
and enjoyed a successful 
career in television and radio, 
including developing and 
hosting the first “Lady in the 
Locker Room” sports pro-
gram. She also had a success-
ful career in public relations 
serving as the director of 
public relations for General 
Motors’ New Departure Hyatt 
Division and later forming her 
own agency, Sherry Kaye & 
Associates. Sherry’s first love 
was singing, and she spent the 
last 20 years teaching singing 
and the performing arts.
Sherry was the devoted 
daughter of the late Ruth 
(Ekelman) Kaye; loving sis-
ter of the late Faylene Owen; 
sister-in-law of Larry Owen. 
She is also survived by her 
niece and nephews, Cindy 
and Steven Hughey, and 
Marc Curtis; grandnieces and 
grandnephews, Jennifer and 
Eric Ross, and Eric and Robyn 

Hughey; two great-grandniec-
es, Isla Ross and Rosie Fay 
Hughey; and two great-grand-
nephews, Gavin Ross and 
Cooper Hughey; other loving 
family and friends.
Interment was at Clover Hill 
Park Cemetery. Contributions
