the Vietnam war, he opened 
free health care clinics. 
He was a devoted family 
man who prized everyday 
activities such as making 
Jill and Robbie laugh at the 
dinner table and traveling 
adventures on winter break 
vacations.
Sandy and Maureen had 
a wide circle of friends, 
both here and in Florida. 
They enjoyed entertaining 
friends and family in both 
homes, golfing, playing 
cards and traveling. He was 
a co-founder of the local 
Multiple Sclerosis Support 
Group, and later in life 
enjoyed regular “ROMEO” 
lunches, which continued 
during COVID on Zoom.
Sandy had a remarkable 
will to live despite his health 
challenges. Family describe 
him as “inspirational” and 
“heroic.” He always focused 
on the best life had to offer 
and was deeply loved.
Dr. Kornwise was the son 
of the late Pauline and Max 
Kornwise. In addition to his 
beloved wife and daughter, he 
is survived by his treasured 
grandson, Devon Kornwise; 
his brother and sister-in-law, 
Larry and Nancy Kornwise; 
brother-in-law, Gerald (the 
late Betsy) Loomus; many 
loving nieces, nephews, great-
nieces and great-nephews. He 
was the brother-in-law of the 
late Maxine Loomus-Ruskin-
Flagg.
Interment was at Adat 
Shalom Memorial Park.
