National Council of Jewish
Women Michigan’s annual
fundraiser “Women of Vision”
was held at Adat Shalom
Synagogue on Oct. 26, with
Emmy-Award winning ABC
News’ Nightline co-anchor
Juju Chang headlining the
benefit luncheon.
Close to 300 people
attended the event, which
was held to raise funds to
support the organization’s
many community-service
projects and social justice
advocacy work. It was the first

in-person Women of Vision
since 2019.
As an Asian woman who
is also Jewish by choice,
Chang spoke about the
parallels between Asian hate
and antisemitism. Sheila
Katz, CEO of the national
headquarters of National
Council of Jewish Women
Inc., flew in from Washington
and urged women to make
their voices heard by voting.

Women of Vision

JARC, a nonprofit that serves
adults with developmental
disabilities in the Metro
Detroit area, hosted a cook-
ing class for the people it
serves and members of the
community on Sept. 7 as part
of the final group of sum-
mer Hobbies and Hangouts
classes — a program of
JARC’s Making Community
Connections.
Sixteen participants of the
class were welcomed to Great
Lakes Culinary Center where
they had the opportunity
to cook together. Flatbreads
were made with fresh ingre-

dients, including vegetables
and herbs, all picked by
participants from the garden
at the Great Lakes Culinary
Center.
Persons served and mem-
bers of the community had
a great time connecting with
each other while preparing
flatbreads.
JARC looks forward to
restarting this popular sum-
merlong program next year.
If you are interested in more
information about summer
2023 classes, contact Jessica
Tierney at jessicatierney@

The group collects fresh herbs from the garden to use on their
flatbreads.
