JARC, a nonprofit organization serving adults
with developmental disabilities in the Metro
Detroit area, hosted “Sukkot in the Lot,
” an
annual Sukkot holiday celebration for the
people they serve on Sunday, Oct. 16.
Held in the Jewish Federation of
Metropolitan Detroit’s parking lot in
Bloomfield Hills, participants of the event
enjoyed cider and donuts, played fall-themed
games and danced to music with their favor-
ite Star Trax DJ. A traditional sukkah, made
available to JARC by Federation, was offered to
attendees to join Rabbi Krakoff inside to shake
the lulav and etrog and recite the prayers.
JARC Director of Philanthropy Jenny Kabert
said it was special to watch everyone greet one
another, and the people JARC serves were truly
happy to be together. She shared, “Sukkot is
an important holiday and the people we serve
who are Jewish enjoyed celebrating in a festive,
outdoor environment surrounded by friends
— what could be better! And for those who
attended who aren’t Jewish, it was a fun party
with music, games, cider and donuts. It was a
win all around.
