was an avid lifelong learner,
intellectually bright and
active in local organizations
throughout her adult life.
Lois served in leadership

positions as both secretary
and president of her local
chapter of the Purple Heart
for veteran assistance. As a
person with a lifelong vision
impairment, she continually
engaged productively
and meaningfully in her
community. With a mind as
sharp as a tack, Lois had a
pristine memory of places
she’d been and people she
knew, right down to names,
places and driving routes, as
well as family genealogy. Lois
was studiously observant of
the world around her.
As a resident of Hechtman
II in West Bloomfield for
21 years, Lois regularly
participated in a wide range
of community activities,
including bingo, knitting,
