FARM WORK

Join NEXTGen Detroit 
Volunteers for a morning of 
fresh air, friends and rolling 
up our sleeves for a good 
cause. We’re heading to 
Pingree Farms on Omira 
Street in Detroit to help put 
their community garden to 
bed for the winter. We’ll be 
harvesting the last of the 
season’s bounty for local 
food pantries and helping 
to prepare the plants for 
the cold months ahead. 
Close-toed shoes, long 
pants and a hat are highly 
recommended. We’ll provide 
all the gardening supplies, 
including gloves and a light 
kosher breakfast before 
we get to work. $5 per 
person includes breakfast.

OUTDOOR FUN

off the cozy season with

Every year, Rabbi Tamara 
Kolton leads a service for 
the new year. The service 
for Yom Kippur is communal 
but also deeply personal. 
The intention is to begin the 
year with great awareness 
and a commitment to 
living your highest life. The 
venue will be Planterra 
Conservatory in West 
Bloomfield. Because of the 
air flow, it is considered an 
outdoor venue. The service 
will be no more than 90 
minutes long.

Metro Detroit Forgotten 
Harvest’s fall fundraising 
event, Women’s Harvest 
Lunch, is presented 

by the Kroger Co. of 
Michigan. The event aims 
to bring together women, 
businesses and community 
leaders who are committed 
to alleviating hunger and 
reducing food waste. At 
the Royal Oak Farmers 
Market. Featuring a coursed 
luncheon highlighting 
the seasonal, nutritious 
produce Forgotten Harvest 
distributes through their 
pantry partners, a mixology 
course and drink pairing 
led by a local mixologist 
(alcoholic and non-alcoholic 
options available) as well 
as additional distinguished 
speakers and a networking 
hour. Proceeds benefit 

Forgotten Harvest’s efforts 
to provide fresh, healthy 
produce to those in need 
through the organization’s 
farm, pantry partners and 
grocery rescue efforts.
