He served in the Army in WWII as an aerial photographer. His first business was Coville Portraits, then ABC Photo, which merged with Bill Davidson’s Guardian Industries into Guardian Photo. Warren married the love of his life, Margot Triest, in 1948; they were together for 72 years, until her passing in December 2020. They started an I Have a Dream program, promising 78 fifth-graders from Roosevelt Elementary (which he had attended) that all who graduated high school would be able to attend college or trade school. To this day, “Dreamers” keep in touch by Facebook. Mr. Coville became one of the smaller partners as an owner of the Detroit Pistons and wore a championship ring his whole life. Active in the Jewish community, with the Trico/ Coville-Triest Family Foundation, the couple were benefactors of JARC, establishing the Warren and Margot Coville Scholarship Fund for Independent Living. With Jewish Family Service, they endowed its Coville Group Apartments for the Elderly Project. In Sarasota, he was on the board of the Jewish Housing Council and the Jewish Family and Children’s Services; they created the Coville Counseling Center. Warren was a board member of the Cranbrook Academy of Art, Detroit Institute of Arts and the George Eastman House. He donated a portion of his photojournalism collection to the Library of Congress and a portion to the John and Mable Ringling Museum. The couple helped create the Kotler-Coville Glass Pavilion at Ringling Museum, where they donated their studio art glass collection. In addition, Warren was on the board of the Visit Sarasota County and won the Voice of Sarasota Tourism award. He was also active with the Asolo Theatre, serving on the board as president of the Asolo Repertory Theatre and just recently created the Warren and Margot Coville Rehearsal Hall. He and his wife sponsored many students of FSU/ Asolo Conservatory. Warren Coville is survived by three daughters, Lynn Coville of Connecticut, Betsy Coville and Claudia Coville of Florida ; grandchildren, Ashely Curtidor of Florida, Gabriel and Liz Curtidor of Georgia; great- granddaughter, Sofia Curtidor; many nieces, nephews and their extended families.
