SPOTLIGHT

Join JFS for its Annual
“Walk a Mile in My Shoes”
fundraising event, Sunday,
Oct. 9, 2022.
Imagine being forced
to flee your home and
arriving in a strange new
land alone. Imagine not
knowing how you are
going to feed your family
today, or where you’ll live,
or how you’ll survive in
the world. Imagine having
no human or social contact
for months at a time.
Imagine being worried sick
all of the time about what
your future will look like.
The second annual
“Walk a Mile in My
Shoes” fundraiser will
provide an opportunity
for participants to pause
and consider some of the
experiences, including the
traumas, losses, fears and
hopes that JFS clients —
refugees — face every day.
Funds raised will
support all resettlement
needs: housing, food and
nutrition, employment
services, transportation
and mental health.
While registration for

the event is free, you are
encouraged to ask your
friends and family to join
your team or sponsor your
journey and JFS’ mission
of creating solutions,
promoting dignity and
inspiring humanity.
To learn more and to
register for the walk, visit
https://jfswc.akaraisin.
com/ui/WalkAMile2022.
Registration begins
at 9 a.m. at Burns Park
Elementary School
(1300 Baldwin Ave., Ann
Arbor). Plenty of parking
is available in the school
parking lot, on Wells
Street, and on the side
streets Granger and Olivia.
The walk will kick-off
at 10 a.m. with a moment
of silent reflection before
the Grand Marshal starts
the walk. Participants
will enjoy music and
refreshments. The event
ends at noon.
The event will be held
rain or shine. Participants
are encouraged to monitor
the weather and dress
appropriately.
