LIPTEN, Ph.D., 
92, died Aug. 28, 
2022, in Delray 
Beach, Fla. 
She was born 
Aug. 29, 1929, in Brooklyn, 
N.Y., to Gershon (Harry) 
Weiss and Monia (Minnie nee 
Neischtadt). Claire served as 
a professor at Wayne State 
University in sociology and 
within the medical school. 
She taught and fought for civil 
rights and gender equality 
before going into private prac-
tice as a marital and family 
therapist.
Claire was married to the 
love of her life, Seymour, for 
49 years. She was an avid golf-
er, bridge player, remarkable 
cook, talented decorator and 
lover of the arts. She traveled 
the world and loved to learn. 

She was still taking college 
courses at the time of her 
death. She had a charm that 
warmed people’s hearts and 
a smile that lit up the room. 
Her Jewish identity was cen-
tral to her life.
Mrs. Lipten was prede-
ceased by her husband, 
Seymour; son, Scott; and 
brothers, Leo and Murray. She 
is survived by her daughters, 
Lori Lipten of Bloomfield 
Hills and Stacie Lipten of 
Delray Beach; her precious 
granddaughter, Samantha 
Buyers; many beloved nieces 
and nephews.
Interment was at Clover 
Hill Park Cemetery.
