The mission of the Downtown
Synagogue is to serve as a bea-
con for the Jewish community of
Metro Detroit by maintaining an
egalitarian synagogue, rooted in
Jewish tradition and affirming of
pluralistic practice, in Downtown
Detroit. We encourage inter-
generational engagement and
promote broad-based partici-
pation by offering a wide range
of programming and acting as
a conduit for Jewish activity in
the city. We are committed to
supporting the revitalization of
Detroit and assuring accessibility
to all. The Downtown Synagogue
is currently undergoing a $5.5
million transformational build-
ing renovation. The renovated
building will feature an inspiring
and accessible worship space,
a dedicated area for children,
and a welcoming community
space. We’re also creating a
Jewish co-working space where
partner organizations can collab-
orate, share resources and build
community under one roof. This
comprehensive renovation will
center IADS as the hub for Jewish
life in the city and ensure that we
can serve the needs of our com-
munity for the next 100 years.
