Mr. Applebaum was the 
devoted brother of the late

Applebaum; son of the late 
Joseph and the late Minnie 
Applebaum; son-in-law of 
the late David L. Goldsmith 
and the late Sylvia Chinitz 
Goldsmith; brother-in-law 
of the late Harold Goldsmith 
and the late Judy (the late 
Jerry) Goldfaden.
Interment took place at 
Adat Shalom Memorial 
Park Cemetery in Livonia.

HERSHEL N. 
EPSTEIN, 85, of 
Wellington, Fla., 
formerly of West 
Bloomfield, died 
on Aug. 7, 2022. 
He went to California after 
receiving his bachelor of sci-
ence degree in pharmacy. He 
came back for a long week-
end only to discover the love 
of his life. They had a whirl-
wind romance. 
That year, he opened two 
pharmacies in Detroit. He 
later partnered with Sam Bez 
and Abe Saham in another 
store. Then Rich Grossman 
partnered with him. He and 
Rich were very successful for 
many years. He eventually 
sold out to CVS Pharmacy. 
Mr. Epstein is survived 
by his loving wife, Gail M. 
Epstein. He was the beloved 
father of David S. Epstein, 
Jodi A. Golden and Daniel 
A. Epstein; loving grandfa-
ther of Benjamin I. Epstein 
and Jonah S. Epstein; broth-
er-in-law of the late Estelle 
Hurwitz, Dr. Ronald J. 
Hurwitz and the late Estelle 
Hurwitz, Sandra Levethan 
and the late Syd Levethan. 
He is also survived by many 
loving nieces, nephews, other 
family members and a world 
of friends.

RONALD STEVEN 
MELAMED, 51, of 
Charlotte, N.C., 
passed away Aug. 
4, 2022, after a val-
iant fight with 
pancreatic cancer.
Born in Detroit on July 
15, 1971, he was the son 
of Frederick and Carol Sue 
Melamed and grew up in 
Southfield. Ron attended the 
University of Michigan for 
both his undergraduate and 
law degrees. For the past 15 
years, he has lived and worked 
in Charlotte with his wife, Ella. 
Ron was an avid gamer who 
loved great friends, great food 
and the Grateful Dead. He will 
be remembered by many for 
his inexhaustible spirit and his 
ability to make you believe that 
everything was going to be OK. 
This man, who loved superhe-
ro movies, had a superpower of 
his own: his unwavering posi-
tivity in the face of adversity. 
Those left to honor his 
memory include his wife, 
Ella; dogs, Maddie and Asher 
of Charlotte; mother, Carol
