Meet Bernie
Bernie is a Holocaust survivor whose children live out of
state and hadn’t been able to visit since COVID. Once they
felt comfortable traveling, they flew out to see him. And
it became clear that their father’s needs had increased.
Bernie had been relying on Jewish Family Service
Jewish Family Service for
transportation to his doctors’ appointments as well as for
Kosher Meals on Wheels. But his kids noticed a severe
decline. His home was in disarray. And he was very lonely.
They decided to reach out to JFS for more help.
JFS provided a personal emergency response system and
home care services. For socialization, JFS connected Bernie
with a friendly phone caller who checks in with him weekly
to discuss their shared love of baseball.
Bernie and his kids are not alone. There are hundreds of
