SPOTLIGHT
J
ewish college students looking for
a paid summer internship should
check out JVS Human Services’
program: the Jeanette & Oscar Cook
Jewish Occupational Intern Program,
known as JOIN.
Participants get work experience,
attend educational seminars and learn
about the Jewish community in a vari-
ety of areas, including business admin-
istration, human services, marketing
and communications, community
outreach and program planning. Jewish
full-time undergraduate or graduate
students who are Metro Detroit resi-
dents are eligible to apply.
Sunny Nayberg, 23, did the internship
in summer 2018. She was a student at
Wayne State University studying crimi-
nal justice. She says that the JOIN expe-
rience “changed her life” and “opened
her eyes to the possibilities of working
in the Jewish community and in the
nonprofit world in general.” She has
been working at Jewish Family Service
and will be moving to the Jewish
Federation in Georgia in January.
Ashley Schnaar, 25, is another JOIN
success story. She did the internship in
summer 2017 as a senior at MSU study-
ing social work. She now works for
the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan
Detroit as a youth mental health coor-
dinator and planning associate.
Openings are limited. Applications
and initial interviews must be complet-
ed by Jan. 31, 2021. For more informa-
tion, visit jvshumanservices.org/join
