STREAMING CATCH-UP
The original, 10-episode Hulu
series High Fidelity was released
in its entirety on Feb. 14. If the
title is familiar, you are probably
thinking of the hit 2000 film of
the same name that starred John
Cusack as Rob, the owner of a
Chicago record store. The 2000
film co-starred Lisa Bonet, now
55, as a great singer who Rob is
attracted to and a then-unknown
Jack Black, now 50, as a clerk in
Rob’
s store.
The Hulu series stars Zoe
Kravitz, 31, as Rob, the owner
of a Brooklyn record store (Lisa
Bonet is Kravitz’
s real-life mother).
As the series starts, Rob’
s longtime
boyfriend, who left a year before,
has returned to Brooklyn. Reviews
are mostly good. As in the original
film, Rob frequently breaks the
“fourth wall” and talks to viewers
directly about what’
s going in her
life.
The first 10-episode season of
the Amazon original series Hunters
began streaming Feb. 21. Al Pacino,
in his first TV role, plays Meyer
Offerman, the Jewish leader of a
group of Nazi hunters headquar-
tered in New York City in 1977.
They discover that hundreds of
important Nazi officials are living
in America and are conspiring to
create a Fourth Reich. The “hunt-
ers,” who include many non-Jews,
including a black woman, set out
on a bloody quest to bring these
Nazis to justice. The Jewish cast
members do play Jews: Logan
Lerman, 28; Jeannie Berlin, 70;
Josh Radnor, 45; Carol Kane, 67;
and Saul Rubinek, 71, (his parents
survived the Holocaust because
Polish farmers hid them).
The series is produced by African
American comedian Jordan Peele,
who has recently shown he is the
master of scary films (Get Out,
Us). David Weil, the grandson

of Holocaust survivors, created
the series and wrote it. Amazon
has released a companion “fea-
turette” about the series in which
Weil explains why he created the
series and much more. There’
s a
wide-ranging interview with Weil
on the Forbes magazine site that
can enhance your enjoyment of the
series. Just search for the title (Feb.
14; “Hunters Creator David Weil
Schmoozes About Tough Jews”).

NEW SVU CAST MEMBER?
The Feb. 13 episode of Law and
Order: SVU introduced a new
character, police sergeant Hasim
Khaldum. Khaldum is supposed to
be the son of a Jewish mother and
a Muslim father. Ari’
el Stachel,
28, plays Khaldum. Stachel won
a 2018 Tony award for playing an
Arab character in the Broadway
musical production of The Band’
s
Visit. Stachel, who grew up in
California, is the son of parents
who met on an Israeli kibbutz. His
American mother is Ashkenazi
and his Israeli father is of Yemeni
Jewish background. Right after the
episode aired, Statchel tweeted
that Khaldum will re-appear in
more episodes this season. There’
s
strong “internet chatter” that
Khaldum will eventually become a
main cast character.
