He began his career as a 
teacher and swim coach in 
Detroit, and he swam com-
petitively in high school. He 
was a ham radio enthusiast 
and had friends around the 
world. He inspired everyone 
who crossed his path.
During his career, Norman 
served as chapter and nation-
al president for the Institute 
of Scrap Recycling Industries 
and the Detroit Metal Dealers 
Association, authored articles 
for American Metal Market 
and spoke at national and 
international conferences.
Mr. Cohn was a devoted 
husband, father and grandfa-
ther, who loved to read and 
travel. 
He is survived by his lov-
ing wife of 50 years, Sonny 
(Schussler); his three devot-
ed children, Lynne (Dan) 
Golodner, Jody (Ari) Charlip, 
and Randy (Darcie) Cohn; he 
will be missed greatly by his 
10 grandchildren, Hannah 
Charlip, Asher Schreiber, 
Eliana Schreiber, Grace 
Golodner, Max Charlip, 
Aidan Charlip, Shaya 
Schreiber, Zach Cohn, Dylan 
Cohn, and Edyn Cohn. 
Mr. Cohn was the son of 
the late Sarah and Sidney 
Cohn. Contributions may

DR. ZENA WAX 
SULKES 
FREEMAN, 80, 
of Winter Park, 
Fla., died Dec. 
22, 2019. 
She was born in Detroit 
and was a graduate of Central 
High and the University of 
Michigan. 

She earned her doctoral 
degree in education from the 
University of South Florida. 
Dr. Freeman was an educator 
and taught Jewish and secu-
lar studies at all levels from 
preschool through college. 
Notably, she served as the 
head of school of the Jewish 
Academy of Orlando, direc-
tor of education at Temple 
B’
nai Israel in Clearwater, 
Fla., and was a beloved lead-
er within Congregation of 
Reform Judaism in Orlando. 
She loved to travel, knit, 
play mahj and enjoy the com-
pany of family and friends. 
Dr. Freeman is survived 
by her husband, Daniel 
Freeman; devoted sons, 
Scott (Marc Ginsberg) and 
Neil; Dan’
s daughter, Wendy 
(Gerard) Bradford; and son, 
Scott Freeman; four loving 
grandchildren. 

BARBARA 
GARRETT, 73, 
of Oak Park, died 
Dec. 29, 2019. 
She is sur-
vived by her 
children, Tori (Olan) Noe, 
Rami Garrett and Darren 
Garrett; grandchildren, 
Quincy (Nikki) Field, Macy 
Field and Jeremy Garrett; 
great-granddaughter, Kaya 
Field; sisters, Lesley (Barry) 
Feldman and Melissa (Gary) 
Porter; brother-in-law, Mark 
(Linda) Garrett; many nieces, 
nephews and friends. 
Mrs. Garrett was the 
beloved wife for 43 years 
of the late Joel Garrett; the 
devoted daughter of the late 
Sophie and the late Harry 
Komisar; the dear daughter-
in-law of the late Lilyan and 
the late David Garrett.
