Inspiring, musical rabbi 
will help Detroiters usher 
in the holidays.

R

abbi Josh Warshawsky has 
been described as a “break-
through talent in the world 
of Jewish music” whose soulful 
singing and davening is inspiring 
people — from synagogues to sum-
mer camps — across the country.
Warshawsky is a singer, song 
leader, musician, composer and a 
graduate of the Ziegler School of 
Rabbinic Studies in Los Angeles. 
He tours to teach and inspire. 
He will be in 
Detroit Sept. 20 and 
21 at Congregation 
Beth Ahm in 
West Bloomfield 
for a Shabbat and 
Selichot experi-
ence. Throughout 
the weekend, 
Warshawsky will 
feature music from 
his latest project, 
“Chaverai Nevarech/
Friends, Let Us 
Bless.” He will use 
music from this cur-
rent album to create 
a communal singing 
experience, one that 
entertains and inspires.
Engaging is the word Rabbi 
Steven Rubenstein of Beth Ahm 
uses to describe Josh and his music.

seen him perform many times,” 
Rubenstein says. “He brings you in; 
you become part of the concert and 
are moved in an unforgettable way. 
This is why Josh is loved by camps, 
teen groups and synagogues across 
the country. I am excited to wel-
come him to Beth Ahm and invite 
the community to share a fantastic 
weekend with us.” 
“Libeinu: The Heart and Soul of 
Shabbat” is how Warshawsky will 
welcome the Sabbath on Friday, 
Sept. 20. A festive oneg, singing 

and camp-style Kabbalat Shabbat 
will begin at 6 p.m. A traditional 
Shabbat dinner will follow. 
“Niggun Halev: Melody of the 
Heart” is the theme for Shabbat 
morning beginning at 9:30 a.m. 
Sept. 21. Warshawsky will lead 
a music-filled Shabbat morning 
service that will include musical 
teaching. Afterward, everyone is 
invited to enjoy Shabbat lunch and 
stay for “Prayer Song” at 12:45 p.m. 
This hourlong session 
of songs and stories will 
include highlights from 
Warshawsky’
s “Chaverai 
Nevarech” project. His 
Shabbat appearance 
is sponsored by the 
Menasche and Sara 
Haar Fund.
The highlight of 
Warshawsky’
s visit to 
Detroit will be Saturday 
night, Sept. 21, begin-
ning at 9:30 p.m. Joined 
by his band, the rabbi’
s 
concert will include 
new melodies and clas-
sical Jewish hits, audi-
ence participation and 
inspiration for the upcoming High 
Holidays. This concert is free and 
open to the community thanks to 
the Regina and Walter Litt Jewish 
Music Fund. 
The familiar sounds of the High 
Holidays will be heard at 10:45 
p.m. with Selichot, a contemplative 
service full of High Holiday themes 
and music. Presented in partner-
ship with Adat Shalom Synagogue, 
Congregation Beth Ahm, 
Congregation Beth Shalom, B’
nai 
Israel Synagogue, Congregation 
B’
nai Moshe, Congregation Shaarey 
Zedek, Isaac Agree Downtown 
Synagogue and Hazon Detroit, the 
community will enter the High 
Holiday season together. ■
