The secular wedding was held in the palatial Paris home of her father, famous rocker Lenny Kravitz. Also attending were the four other female stars of Zoe’ s HBO series, Big Little Lies. Zoe’ s mother, actress Lisa Bonet, 51, was there, too, accompanied by her present husband, actor Jason Momoa (Aquaman). OK — here is the con- densed Jewish story. Lenny’ s father was Jewish and his mother African American. He had a very light exposure to Judaism as a child and, as an adult, he identifies as a Christian. His mother was African American actress Roxie Roker (The Jeffersons). Bonet’ s white mother was Jewish and her father was African American. She was raised “Jewish light,” but doesn’ t practice anything now. Zoe has defined herself as a “secular Jew” and does seem to like Jewish guys — most of her prior “steadies” are Jewish. Karl’ s paternal grandfa- ther, Dr. Murray Glusman, a distinguished physician, was the son of Russian Jewish immigrants. Karl’ s paternal grandmother, also a top physician, was a “WASP” (I don’ t know if she converted to Judaism. Clues make me think not.). Karl’ s maternal grandparents were Irish and Swedish. Bottom line: There is enough “Jewish” going on here that there’ s a chance the newlyweds’ children, if any, will be raised Jewish. They will be “halachic” Jews because their mother is the child of a Jewish mother. BRIEFLY NOTED Mel Brooks, 92, was in New York recently for a two-night performance of his show Mel Brooks on Broadway. The New York Post reports that a Discovery channel executive asked him the “key to longev- ity.” He replied: “Keep on living.” In an audience Q&A segment, Brooks was asked: “Do you wear boxers or briefs?” He replied, “Depends.” Now streaming on Netflix is the mini-series Tales of the City. The series follows an eclectic group of San Francisco-based friends. There were three prior mini-series based on the Tales of the City novels that starred Laura Linney and Olympia Dukakis. They co-star again in the new Netflix series. Victor Garber, 70, and Zosia Mamet, 31, have recurring roles as new characters. Garber plays Sam, a volunteer reader for sight-impaired people. He reads to Mrs. Madrigal (Dukakis). Mamet, a co-star of the HBO show Girls, plays Claire, a hip documentary filmmaker who becomes the love interest of Linney’ s estranged daughter. A new Broadway musical about the life and career of rock legend Neil Diamond, 78, will hit the boards sometime in the next year. The still untitled musical will follow him from his origins as poor Brooklyn Jewish boy until he hits super-stardom. Many of Diamond’ s songs will be used. Diamond has expressed happiness with the new show and the creative team behind it. The two principals are top-notch: The show’ s story (“book”) is being written by Andrew McCarten, who wrote Bohemian Rhapsody. The director is Michael Mayer, 59, a Tony winner for best direction of a musical. He’ s also adept at directing dramas and fixing scripts when necessary. ■ NATE BLOOM COLUMNIST Zoe Kravitz Lisa Bonet Victor Garber (2012) Zosia Mamet PHOTO VIA KRAVITZ FACEBOOK PHOTO VIA BONET FACEBOOK PHOTO VIA GARBER FACEBOOK PHOTO VIA WIKIPEDIA On Star’ s beautiful already low-priced trays 24555 W. 12 MILE ROAD 248-352-7377 www.stardeli.net $5 OFF Expires 07/31/19.
