JOSEPH SAVIN, 88, of
West Bloomfield, died on
May 1, 2019.
He was born in Detroit,
graduated from Central
High School and went
on to earn his bachelor
of architecture from the University of
Michigan. He practiced architecture
throughout his life and served as a pro-
fessor of architecture for several decades
at Lawrence Technological University.
Mr. Savin died peacefully in the home
he designed and built 58 years ago. In
addition to architecture, his passions
included the Zionist Organization of
America, where he served as president
for five years, Jewish causes of all kinds,
and sailing, photography and travel.
He was an avid reader, intellectual and
dedicated learner. He was curious about
the world and strived to use his acquired
knowledge and wisdom to improve it.
Above all, he was a kind and generous
man who loved his family and friends
dearly and whose life was enriched by
their presence, love and devotion.
Mr. Savin is survived by his beloved
wife of 62 years, Diane Savin; his sons
and daughters-in-law, Dr. Michael and
Julie Savin, Dr. Daniel Savin and Dr.
Jill Levy, and Andrew and Courtney
Savin; grandchildren Dr. Jeffrey Savin,
Kimberly Savin, Naomi Savin, Asher
Savin, Leah Savin and Aliza Savin.
He was the loyal brother of the late
Sylvia Iwrey and her late husband Sol
Iwrey; devoted son of the late Jacob and
the late Stella Savin; the faithful brother-
in-law of the late Seymour Lesser and
the late Ann Lesser; the late Ruthe Stein
and the late Saul Stein; the late Dorothy
Frazein and the late Douglas Frazein.
Interment was at Clover Hill Park
