MOTOWN @ 60 On TV
Smokey Robinson will host
Motown
60:
A
Grammy
Celebration, in honor of the
60th anniversary of Motown
Records, broadcast on CBS at 8
p.m. Performers on the special
include Stevie Wonder, Diana
Ross, John Legend, Ne-Yo, Little
Big Town, Boyz II Men, Chloe X
Halle, Meghan Trainor, Fantasia, Pentatonix, Thelma Houston and more. Fun fact: Many
of the people behind the scenes at Motown were Jewish, including Nat Tarnopol, man-
ager of Motown legend Jackie Wilson, who many believe converted to Judaism. In a
2003 JN story, Motown’
s first PR manager Alan Abrams said Wilson could talk to his
mother in Yiddish. So could Barry Gordy, Abrams said. “Their association with Jewish
people rubbed off on them.”
