MISCELLANEOUS NOTES
Starting at 10 p.m. March 27 on FX
cable is What We Do in the Shadows,
a comic documentary
series that follows four
vampires who have been
roommates for hundreds
of years in New York City.
Beanie Feldstein, 25, the
sister of Jonah Hill, 35,
has a recurring role.
 The series is based on
a 2014 indie hit film of
the same name direct-
ed by and co-written by
Taika Waititi, 43. He
co-produces the TV series,
too. From New Zealand,
Waititi’
s father is native
Polynesian (Maori) and his
mother is Jewish. He had
a blockbuster hit with Thor
Ragnarok (2017) and has
just about completed Jo
Jo Rabbit, a film with an
anti-Nazi theme. Scarlett
Johansson, 34, co-stars.
Glee star Lea Michele,
32, wed Zandy Reich, 36,
on March 9. Reich is the
head of AYR, a women’
s
clothing company. No de-
tails yet on whether it was
a secular or religious wed-
ding. There is one wedding
photo that shows what sort
of looks like a chuppah. JN
Publisher/Executive Editor
Arthur Horwitz confirms
Reich is Jewish and the
grandson of Holocaust sur-
vivors. Horwitz is Reich’
s
cousin.
 Michele, whose father is
Jewish, was raised in her
in mother’
s Catholic faith.
That happens, of course.
When asked about her
faith by a writer for a Jew-
ish paper when Glee was
about to premiere, she said
she was “raised both.” But
when Glee became a hit,

Michele was just fine with telling the
world she was raised a church-going
Catholic.

AT THE MOVIES
Hotel Mumbai opens at Detroit’
s
Landmark Theater on March 22. In
2008, a Pakistani Islamic
terrorist group launched
a series of attacks on tar-
gets in the Indian city of
Mumbai (formerly Bombay)
that went on for four days
(Nov. 26-29). The attack
targets included the five-
star Taj Mahal Palace hotel
and the Nariman House, a
Chabad community center
that included a synagogue.
Six Jewish hostages were
killed, including two rabbis,
before the building was
retaken by Indian security
forces.
The film, which has
garnered mostly good
advance reviews, seems
to focus almost completely
on the experience of the
persons in the Taj Mahal
Palace Hotel. One review
mentions a rabbi, but it
must be a very brief scene,
because there is no rabbi
character in the credits.
Armie Hammer and Jason
Isaacs, 55, have co-star-
ring roles as non-Indian
foreigners who strive to
avoid being killed or held
hostage.
Gloria Bell opens at
the Maple Theater in
Bloomfield Hills on March
22. It is a universal-
ly critically acclaimed
remake of a hit Chilean
film about the dating life
of Gloria, a divorced mid-
dle-aged woman (Julianne
Moore). Brad Garrett,
58, (Everybody Loves
Raymond) has a large
supporting role as Dustin,
Gloria’
s glowering ex-hus-
band. ■
