She was a dedicated teacher in Detroit for 35 years and at Temple Israel Religious School for 20. She loved volunteering her time, helping those in need, doing handicrafts and reading. Mrs. Al-Azem was a free spirit, always speaking up for the rights of others. She was fiercely devoted to her three daughters, Victoria Hatfield, and Alyah and Sara Al-Azem. She was the loving sister of Jerry (Sandi) Begel and Elaine (Robert) Sandy; devoted daughter and caretaker of the late Sol and the late Anne Begel. Interment was at Beth El Memorial Park.
