In addition to routine brushing at least two times per day, all orthodontic patients should also practice daily fl ossing. Since brushing and fl ossing with braces can be challenging for many patients, there are many tools and techniques that we can offer to make these challenges simple to overcome. We recommend that all our patients also use a fl uoride rinse at bedtime to preserve the health and integrity of their teeth. While an electric toothbrush may help many patients, any soft bristle toothbrush can be used. If the plaque is properly removed, the teeth will move more effi ciently, remain cavity-free, and stain-free. For patients with work or school, our offi ce also provides a travel toothbrush, which makes it more convenient to brush when not at home. In general, excellent orthodontic treatment can only be obtained with cooperative and informed patients. Once orthodontic therapy begins, the patient will be expected to continue to see the family dentist for regular check-ups, dental cleanings and routine care. Routine dental care will help ensure the best results from orthodontic therapy and allow us to work with your dentist to create a beautiful and healthy smile to last a lifetime!!
