NEWMAN, 90, of Scottsdale, Ariz., former- ly of Michigan, died Dec. 2, 2018. He was a beloved father, grandfa- ther, uncle, companion and friend. Born in Detroit on Oct. 19, 1928, to David and Sarah (Landau) Newman, Buddy was raised in Dearborn, where he attended school and spent his career as a real estate developer and builder. Under the name Newman Building Company, he developed both com- mercial and residential properties in Wayne County, many of which remain in use today Throughout his life, Buddy was active in community and local affairs. He was a member of the Dearborn Exchange Club, the Dearborn Chamber of Commerce, the Kiwanis Club of Dearborn, among others. He was also a longtime member of the Downtown Synagogue in Detroit. Mr. Newman is survived by his companion of 36 years, Shelly Brown; his children and their spouses, Craig A. Newman (Susie) of Scarsdale, N.Y.; Randee Freedman (Paul) of West Bloomfield; Carol Ellis (Rick) of Bloomfield Hills; grandchildren, Rachel and Jonathan Newman, Samantha Freedman Evan Mitchell, Jill Freedman, Devin and Jeremy Ellis; Shelly’s children, David Brown of New York; Joel (Lorraine) of Palo Alto, Calif.; Judy (Wayne) Mitnick of Virginia Beach, Va., her grandchildren, Benjamin and Emily Brown, Jason and Joshua Mitnick. Buddy and his family were also grateful for his caregivers, Roger Morales, April Guajardo and Gloria Morales. He was a dear uncle to his sister’s sons, Michael (Mary) Morrison, and Jeffrey (Kyle) Morrison, all of Buffalo, N.Y. Mr. Newman was predeceased by his sister, Patty (Larry) Morrison.
